Assessing data quality and security - not just a 'tick-box' exercise for Capita's membership services

Capita's membership services is proud to announce a 10% increase on their existing 75% score within The Information Governance (IG) Toolkit.

As the only NHS membership services provider to have been awarded this accreditation we feel that both our initial high standards for information security and quality and our ongoing commitment to best practice has been reflected in the results of our IG assessments. Last week the Information Governance Alliance (IGA) confirmed our score and to ensure our development we will be re-assessed every six months.

"Passing the initial IG toolkit assessment was great, we knew that we always worked hard at maintaining high levels of both data security and quality but to know we were in line with the Department of Health IG policies and standards was reassuring. But this wasn't just a 'tick-box exercise' for us, we have continued to improve and I'm therefore very proud of our newly increased score. It shows our clients that their data couldn't be in safer hands."

The IGA is a group of national health and care organisations that work together to provide a consistent approach to information governance. The core members of the IGA are the Department of Health, NHS England, Public Health England and the Health and Social Care Information Centre.

The Information Governance Toolkit

We are delighted to announce that our membership services business has reached level two or higher on all requirements within The Information Governance Toolkit, further demonstrating our commitment to information security and quality.

The Department of Health (DH) Information Governance Toolkit allows NHS organisations and partners to assess themselves against Department of Health Information Governance policies and standards. It provides assurance that an organisation maintains high standards and practices good governance in the handling of information.

Adrian Aggett, director of Capita Membership Services commented: "Going through the Information Governance (IG) assessment has allowed us to assess ourselves against Department of Health IG policies and standards.  Although we knew our own internal IG procedures were more than satisfactory, it was good to get the reassurance from the IG Toolkit assessment process. I cannot stress how important information governance is to us and I am proud that we are leading the way in data security assurance in our industry."

Capita sponsors 35 trees at the Countess of Cheshire Country Park.

 

Capita has so far sponsored 35 trees which have been planted at the Countess of Cheshire Country Park. The Park has seen the planting of over 2,000 trees in total as part of the NHS Forest project.

John Church, Chairman of NHS Western Cheshire which provided some of the funding for the trees, said: "This is an excellent project and each of the three NHS Trusts on the Health Park are very supportive partners. It is also wonderful to be part of the national "NHS Forest" campaign which aims to plant 1.3 million trees."

Planting trees with OxTreeGen at Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust

After a successful campaign to convert Trust members communication preference from paper based to e-mail, Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust secured eleven new trees using our new Evergreen initiative.

"It was very satisfying to watch the first trees from Capita's Evergreen initiative being planted today. This will help the Trust mitigate their carbon levels whilst helping them to reduce their membership communication costs".

How does Evergreen work?

Trees are planted in exchange of members changing their communications preferences. The trees can then be planted within your site or in a local park, school or within the NHS Forest. We will also send email certificates to all members who sign up in this way. A tree planting season is between November and March, where there is an opportunity for your Trust to invite some of these members to a "tree planting event."

Capita employee Tina Nolan will be running the Virgin London Marathon this year

 

This time for the fantastic Above & Beyond, a charity that supports one of our local Trusts.

Above & Beyond is a local charity that raises funds for all of Bristol's nine central hospitals. Each year, they invest some £3 million in projects that make a real difference to the patients and their families who visit these hospitals from all over the UK. The fundraising is used to improve the hospital environment, fund innovative research, support and train hospital staff and provide state of the art equipment.

"Some of my family and friends have benefited from the treatment and ongoing support provided by the hospital units, including the Children's Hospital who have treated my grandson and the Oncology Centre who have treated members of my family and friends in the past. This is my way of giving them omething back so my challenge this year is to try and raise £500 to help them with the wonderful work they do and thanking them on behalf of all the patients and their families who may not have had the opportunity to do so themselves."
